Former Miss USA Shanna Moakler, who works as the director of the Miss California pageant had been in Vegas in the last week actively promoting her latest winner Miss California 2009 Carrie Prejean. She was understood to be close to and good friends with her pageant princess prior to her (Prejean’s) final round answer.

After the pageant Moakler and her business partner Keith Lewis, who is strongly against Proposition 8, said they were so disgusted with Prejean’s response to Perez Hilton’s gay marriage question that they have not made contact with her after the pageant. All pageant directors quickly congratulated their girls after the live telecast but Moakler and Lewis did not go backstage to talk to their first runner up beauty queen because Prejean told national TV audience that she was personally against the idea of gay marriage.

Moakler wrote on her Twitter page, “This is why we have judges at Miss USA, so we find the girl to rep us ALL. I don’t know how you can call a gay man or woman your friend and not want them 2 have the same joys as yourself. In my family we believe in equal rights for all, I am sad and hurt, I agree with Perez 100 [percent]. It’s one thing to have an opinion I am very opinionated n have dealt with backlash from it, it’s another to alienate people who cared about u.” In addition she issued an apology to the sponsors of Miss California saying, “Prejean’s opinions do not stand for those of the Miss California family.”
