mn1-150x150Nov 26, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Directed by the Tony Award-winning director Eric Shaeffer, “The Million Dollar Quartet” is heading towards London. It will make its West End debut in February 2011, and is slated to hit the Noel Coward theater. “The Million Dollar Quartet” is currently performing in Chicago on Broadway. According to sources, the musical which is certainly a nostalgic one is being eagerly awaited over there.

Eric Schaeffer, who has directed the Broadway versions will be directing the West End one too. “The Million Dollar Quartet” traces its history back to the night of December 4, 1956, when four great musical talents had made their recordings in the Sun Record Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. These recordings were made by none other than Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis. Generally hailed as the first super group, “The Million Dollar Quartet” was of an impromptu nature. Inspired by that famous day, when four great rock icons Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley had assembled altogether, this production is trying to recreate those legendary magical moments back once again, to render out to people the sensational historic jam session.

A source reports that the West End production will be featuring designs by the Broadway creative team, which includes scenic designs by Derek McLane, and lighting design by Howell Binkley. The costumes will be designed by Jane Greenwood herself. Kai Harada has designed the sound, and the musical supervision owes to Chuck Mead. “The Million Dollar Quartet” comprises of more than twenty rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, country and gospel hits. Then no dearth of imagination when it comes to the question of what December 4, 1956 must have been.
