Dec 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Mickey Rourke, the actor who rose back into the spotlight with his work in the film, ‘The Wrestler’ has expressed his desire to play the part of yet another professional sportsman in the true life story of Gareth Thomas, the rugby player who captured media attention when he announced his sexual preference to the world, and let everyone know that he is gay, although he was married to a woman.

It was over a year ago that Rourke first made his interest in the part known, and the topic was brought up once again during ‘Alan Carr’s Chatty Man’. Rourke made it clear that he is very frustrated about the fact that Thomas is often referred to as “just another gay rugby player,” when Thomas is actually the only rugby player who is openly gay. Rourke even went so far as to say that he is willing to learn the Welsh language in order to be given the chance to play the part.

But the actually progress on the project is not going very well at all. Although the reason is not clear, production is not rolling along as hoped. Americans are not tremendously familiar with the sport, and this could be one reason for the slow start, as could the fact that the studio needs funding. Thomas may not be happy with the portrayal of himself in a film, or any number of holdups could e stopping Rourke from getting the part just yet.
