Oct.16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) “Superior Donuts” is earning exceptional reviews from all quarters post its debut on to the Broadway arena this month. Also basking in the warm glow of the appreciative response are the principal actors are involved in the play. If the applause filled responses are anything to go by, the actors Michael McKean and Jon Michael Hill have reportedly done an exceptional work in the play.
The Tina Landau directed “Superior Donuts” seems to be one of those play that brings in the flavors of some of the classical works that have graced the stage. In every aspect. It is politically sound as well as has a relevant social tagline. All these features in the play has however been heightened extremely well by the immensely talented cast.
Playing the character of an aging donut shop proprietor, MeKean achieves the feat of putting in all the required shades to his character that are necessary. The plot of the play is all about an owner of a donut shop hiring a new employee to increase the sales in his shop. It turns out to be a bright, boisterous African-American guy (Hill), who is filled with a renaissance of thoughts that he feels could not only change the destiny of the shop but also the stagnant life of his employer.
Giving McKean immense support to achieve the required momentum to set the pace of the play, are the others in the cast like Jane Alderman, Kate Buddeke, Michael Garvey, Robert Maffia, Cliff Chamberlain, Yasen Peyankov and James Vincent Meredith. In an announcement made on Oct. 14 by the producers for the show, it appears now that the ticket booking for “Superior Donuts” has been extended till the 28th March of 2010.
