Michael Johns’ Elimination: A Tsunami in American Idol

People call it a surprise or a shock. I call it a Tsunami. I am silent, shaken, angry and sad - all in the sequence. But nothing can be done about it. It is a contest where voter’s judge popularity, looks, style and fashion sense - not the talent.

Michael Johns is talented  and had an aplomb of a great idol in the making - not anymore. It’s shameful for us - the voters- to see such talent go so quickly. This week’s bottom three were Johns, Carly Smithson and Syesha Mercado. All hell broke loose when the it was announced that the two girls were safe. It was indeed a big jolt to millions of Johns’ fans!

We believed that it was time for Brooke White and Kristy Lee Cook to go but they were not even in the bottom three.  However the judges were very supportive. Randy Jackson said, “You’ve got to keep on rocking, dude.” Paula Abdul said, “I’m such a big fan of yours, and you know that.” Simon Cowell said, “I’m going to miss you, you’re a very, very good singer, and very, very nice guy.” Michael Johns closed the show with another great performance of “Dream On.”

Although the American Idol will go on, it will never be the same  without Michael Johns.
