dealMar 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new deal has been struck in the name of Michael Jackson, nine months after he died under mysterious circumstances, and after he was declared the top selling artist in the United States in the year 2008. The deal has been signed by the estate of the late singer with Sony Music Entertainment, which had been his recording company till the time of his death. Besides being memorable as a posthumous deal, the agreement is also going to go down in history as one of the most expensive contracts signed ever. However, all the details have not yet been given out by the authorities.

The authorities in this case are John Branca, the singer’s lawyer and responsible for the management of Michael Jackson’s estate, and John McClain, a music producer and friend to the late singer. They were both very much elated to have struck up the deal with Sony Music Entertainment, saying that more such deals will follow in the days to come, and that all the deals would be aimed at increasing the popularity of Michael Jackson’s music even more. They commented that the deal is a first of a kind, since it has been struck at a time when sales are diminishing.

Sony Music Entertainment has obtained the rights to a trove of Michael Jackson’s music, none of which has been released till date. Most of these are recent compositions, and include solo as well as collaborations. It also has the soundtrack to the documentary “This Is It.’ The deal also empowers Sony to put the music to myriad purposes like games, memorabilia, advertisements, compilations and so on.
