Michael Jackson’s private physician, Dr. Conrad Murray continues to be the focal point of those investigating the 80s pop icons death.
While Los Angeles Police Department homicide detectives leading the investigation have said Dr Murray is not a suspect, they still want to talk to him about the time leading up to Jackson’s death.
Dr. Murray was living with Jackson at his rented Beverly Hills mansion and is reported to have given the eccentric entertainer an injection of the pain killer Demerol – a Morphine like narcotic – at about 11.30am, not long before Jackson suffered cardiac failure.
The cardiologist is reported to have retained his own legal counsel, Houston attorney Ed Chernoff from Stradley, Chernoff, and Alford, who flew to Los Angeles this morning saying he would meet with investigators this afternoon.
According to the lawyer, Dr. Murray will being paying the bill, not the estate of the dead entertainer.
The Jackson family are reported to be angry they have been unable to contact Dr. Murray since the performers death, with civil-rights activist Jesse Jackson, a friend of the family, saying relatives are growing increasingly upset because they remain unable to contact Dr. Murray.
At the same time the founder of a specialty autopsy business, 1-800-AUTOPSY, Vidal Herrera said the Jackson family had contacted him to inquire about having a second autopsy done
Herrera, a former deputy field investigator for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, said he had told them that he didn’t believe another autopsy was required.
An autopsy exam was performed Friday by Los Angeles chief medical examiner-coroner Dr. Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran, a star witness in the O.J. Simpson murder trial.
Sathyavagiswaran was elected chief medical examiner-coroner in 1992 after fourteen years as a deputy medical examiner. He was the medical examiner during the O. J. Simpson murder case and testified in the criminal and civil trials.
Sathyavagiswaran also testified in the trials of Dean Carter and Phil Spector.
While the examination found nothing suspicious in the King of Pops death, and exact reason why the star suffered a cardiac arrest and died will not be known for up to six weeks when the results of toxicology tests are obtained.
