LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) — Michael Jackson’s death is a criminal investigation, law enforcement officials told BNO News on Thursday.

Although no case has been formally presented at this time, prosecutors are aiding the investigation into the star’s death. “There have been conversations by District Attorney personel with police and coroner’s officials in connection with the ongoing investigation,” Sandi Gibbons, who is a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, told BNO News in an e-mailed statement.

There were earlier reports his death investigation had turned into a criminal investigation but officials had denied those reports. “It is common for law enforcement agencies throughout Los Angeles County to be in contact with the District Attorney’s office during criminal investigations,” she added. “We provide legal assistance to law enforcement, if asked.”

Gibbons went on to say that no case has been formally presented to the office at this time, but that the criminal investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office continues.

Gibbons refused to provide additional information, except for his prepared statement. “Do with it what you want,” she told BNO News by telephone.
