Mar 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Michael Jackson has just signed the biggest recording deal in music history…from beyond the grave. The Jackson Estate and Sony Music Entertainment made an announcement on Monday revealing the signing of distribution contract for a seven year deal involving ten brand new Michael Jackson projects.
One of those projects will be a new album made up of never before released work of Michael’s, due to be out in November. Others will include DVDs, and maybe even video games. The contract could be worth up to 250 million dollars. According to John Branca, who is an administrator for the Michael Jackson Estate, “We and Sony feel that the future for Michael Jackson is unlimited.”
The chairman of the Columbia Epic label group, which is a division of Sony Music said that this is a landmark deal for the recording industry. “The audio rights span across different projects,” Stringer said. “There may be theater. There may be films and movies. There may be computer games — or multimedia platforms that I don’t know about today that will happen in 2015.”
When Michael Jackson died in Los Angeles on June 25, 2009, he was almost half a million dollars in debt to financial institutions. Since his death, more than 31 million of his albums have sold worldwide, and two thirds of those sales were overseas. These sales have helped to pay off a good chunk of the money Michael owed.
