The prestigious award ceremony saw the coming together of most of the prolific names in the television industry. As is the case every year, this year’s event too turned out to be one that would be sure to last in the viewer’s memory for quite days to come.

Among all the award announcements and the glitzy appearances of numerous celebs on the stage, the night also chose to pay tribute to a few of the departed stars of the starry constellation, celebrities who have passed away over the past one year. The list of the homage of course boasted of such names as the King of pop Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Natasha Richardson, Patrick Swayze, Karl Malden, Paul Newman, Walter Cronkite and Michael Crichton, among a host of others.

The segment saddened the mood of the celebrations considerably, reminding how many valuable loses have been incurred over the year. In a span of very little time, there have been a huge chuck of stars who have passed away, some of whom had even defined an era.

Sarah McLachlan made a last minute appearance on the stage to croon her melodious and haunting song “I Will Remember You,” for the In Memorium segment in the Emmy. Fawcett and Walter Cronkite were featured a little elaborately in two longer sequences. The screen shots of all the departed celebs graced the giant screen at the Emmys, all the while accompanied by McLachlan’s graceful voice.
