Michael Jackson fans swamp Staples Center lottery site

Millions of Michael Jackson fans from across America are inundating the Staples Center website ( www.staplescenter.com ) set up to administer the lottery for tickets to the dead entertainers memorial service next week.
Hows this: In the first hour and a half after the Staples Center lottery registration website ( www.staplescenter.com ) went live it received more than 500 million “hits” representing tens of millions of visitors.
AEG, the concert promoters which own the Staples Centre venue, said 17,500 tickets will be given away free to grieving fans who register their interest on the website in the 32-hour time period the offer is open.
Only 11,000 of the available tickets are for the service itself. The other 6,500 are for the Nokia Theatre next door where fans will watch on three large screens.
The Staples Centre Michael Jackson memorial service lottery will randomly draw the winners, who will each receive two tickets to the event, on Sunday afternoon and send notifications “via email on or about Sunday, July 5, 2009 by 3.00pm PDT”
While US fans are swamping the website, millions of Jackson fans from Britain, Japan and other countries have been excluded from entering, as too have residents of Rhode Island, Florida and New York.
For those unlucky enough not to win a ticket the service will be broadcast live on television and streamed over the internet with a global audience of hundreds of millions expected to tune in.
Los Angeles Police Department chief Earl Paysinger, said, “if you do not have a ticket, if you are not credentialled, not only will you not be allowed at these venues, you will not be allowed in this area.
“I would encourage all of the Michael Jackson fans and well wishers to take advantage of the TV broadcast.”
Ken Ehrlich, who will produce the Michael Jackson memorial service, said, “it will be a memorial service reflecting the dignity of what the family wants. It will be a fitting memorial to Michael Jackson. No dance numbers.”
The Jackson family had wanted to hold a memorial at Neverland, the entertainer’s California ranch, but that was blocked by lack of a permit.
Jackson is expected to be buried in a $25,000 (£15,000) casket made of solid bronze and plated with 14-karat gold. It is called the Promethean and is the same style used for the entertainer James Brown.

I MET MICHAEL JACKSON EN ROUTE TO SOUTH AFRICA ON THE SAA IN 1984. I WAS CARRYING MY SON, CLIFFORD WHO WAS 2YRS OLD AT THE TIME. I THOUGHT I WAS DREAMING WHEN I WALKED TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE PLANE AND SAW MICHAEL. MICHAEL WALKED TOWARDS ME AND WE STARTED TALKING. HE TOLD ME THAT HE WAS PRETENDING TO BE MICHAEL JACKSON AND I LOOKED AT HIM AND SMILED AND SAID, “YOU CANNOT FOOL ME AS NO ONE HAS THAT SMILE EXCEPT ‘MICHAEL JACKSON’ AND HE GAVE AN EVEN LARGER SMILE.” HE TOLD ME THAT HE WAS GOING TO SUN CITY TO PERFORM AND I TOLD HIM THAT I WAS VISITING FAMILY. HE AUTOGRAPHED MY SON’S PICTURE. WHEN MY SON WAS 11YRS OLD I DROVE TO NEVERLAND RANCH AND LET MY SON CLIMB ON TOP OF MY PRELUDE ROOF SO HE COULD HOPEFULLY LOOK OVER THE GATE. I WAS GOING TO TRY AND REACH MICHAEL AND REFRESH HIS MEMORY THAT WE HAD MET ON THE SAA PLANE BUT I DIDN’T BECAUSE I FELT THAT I WOULD BE DISTURBING HIM… NOW, I WISH I HAD. I MISS HIM! MY DEEPEST CONDOLENCES TO HIS MOTHER, FATHER, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, AND HIS THREE CHILDREN, ETC. I LOST MY HUSBAND TO LUNG CANCER IN 2002.

I,m very sad Michael J. Jackson is gone. I will keep the entire family in my prayers. God has called home into to the gates of heaven another angel. I bet Michael is puttting on a concert in heaven. I AM ONE OF SO MANY BILLIONS OF PEOPLE FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE WHO ARE SADDENED BY THE LOSS OF SUCH AND AMAZING HUMAN BEING AS MICHAEL JACKSON WAS. HE STILL IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED. MICHAEL WILL ALWAYS BE IN OUR HEARTS. EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD BE SUCH AN HONOR AND PRIVILEDGE TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND THE MEMORIAL IN HONOR OF MICHAEL JACKSON ON TUESDAY JULY 7, 2009 AT THE STAPLE CENTER IN L.A.
