Michael Caine thrilled to play hero Humphrey Bogart’s rejected role
April 2nd, 2009 - 4:03 pm ICT by ANIWashington, Apr 2 (ANI): Michael Caine immediately agreed to star in John Huston’s epic 1975 movie ‘The Man Who Would Be King’ after learning his role was first offered to his hero Humphrey Bogart.
Huston met with Caine in Paris and offered him a role in his film, opposite Sir Sean Connery.
However, the director didn’t have to sell the movie hard - he simply explained his first choice was Bogart.
“He said, ‘I was originally going to do this with Clark Gable and Humphrey Bogart, but they both passed away on me.’ ” Contactmusic quoted Caine, as saying.
“I said, ‘I’ll do it.’ Humphrey Bogart was one of my favourite actors and I got to play his part, which I thought was fantastic,” he added. (ANI)
