London, Nov 28 (ANI): Veteran actor Sir Michael Caine has revealed that he is very honoured to receive the London Legend Award.

Caine, 76, a double Oscar-winner and star of more than 100 films over 50 years, was chosen by thousands of the capital’s youngsters as their biggest global role model.

“This is the greatest honour I have received as it is not voted for by the film industry but by the young people of London,” the Sun quoted him as saying at the Spirit of London Awards.

“I happen to think every Londoner is a legend. This place is a legend,” he added.

The gongs, to honour the cream of London’s youth, were organised by the Damilola Taylor Trust on the ninth anniversary of the ten-year-old’s fatal stabbing in Peckham.

“Sir Michael is not only a great ambassador on the world stage but a thoroughly decent man,” Damilola’s dad Richard, 61, added.

More than 3,500 children aged five to 25 were nominated for heroic acts and community work, plus success in business, sport, education and arts. (ANI)
