Oct. 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Horror has a new name. Shot at a lacklustre budget of $10,000, the latest horror flick “Paranormal Activity” has been captivating the audience all across the world. The recently released flick, which initially was released in limited cinema plexes has been reported of grossing millions, since Paramount Pictures took over the mainstream release of the film. The movie has gained phenomenal response since then, such that even the recently released psy-thriller “Saw VI” of cult series “Saw” is finding it difficult to match up with the the flick (though the stakes are going to rise as the movie is only one day old).
Paranormal Activity, which is already being billed as a cult flick, revolves around two characters, Micah Sloat and Katie Feathertone and the series of mysterious occurrences that haunts them down. Shot as a “mockuumentary” (remember Blair Witch Project?), the movie somewhat stands between the real and the virtual world. The stupendous response stands out as a perfect example of the film’s success. “It really kind of accesses those fears that you have as a kid. I think we all can relate to that,” said Sloat who plays the role of Katie Featherstone’s partner. The movie directed by game programmer Oren Peli, has already created a lot of buzz in the horror world. Following the footsteps of Blair Witch Project (mockumentary), the movie portrays the internal fears that Katie goes through as she is haunted by creepy instances as Micah, a disbeliever of sorts tries to track down the ghastly happenings of their house via his video camera.
Nevertheless, only time would bore witness whether the movie continues its stronghold at the box office or fades away via the appearance of another cult flick, “Saw VI”.
