The students of the School for Creative and Performing Arts gave MTV’s Taking the Stage a rave review. They also star on the musical reality show.
Mia Carruthers, 17, a singer-songwriter form Mount Lookout said, “It’s gorgeous. It looks more like a movie than a reality show.” This was the first time that the student stars took a look at the show that is to premiere tonight at 10 on MTV. The show was held for them at the SCPA theatre in the presence of the senior class, and SCPA and Cincinnati Public Schools officials. The students said they loved the parts they saw.
Malik Kitchen, 17, a Walnut Hills senior dance and music major said, “I’m really happy with it. The quality of the film, I was amazed by it.” Malik hopes to dance on Broadway some day.
Dance major Shakira Sargeant said, “It makes Cincinnati look really beautiful. It’s like, ‘This is our school?’ It was so surreal.” her parents are also graduates from SCPA.
Jasmine White-Killins, 18, a West End Ballerina saw the scenes between Mia and her boyfriend Brian and said, “I cried.” The show has not premiered but its stars are already being sought out. Shaakira, Jasmine, and dancers Tyler Nelson and Jammell “J.J.” Howard Jr., have had to sign autographs and pose for pictures. The five stars and their seniors who appear on the show will watch the premiere of the whole show together at the Fountain Square Big Screen tonight at ten. Mia Carruthers said, “We’re going to watch it as a cast. We’re all going to stick together.”
