Feb 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Award-winning British television series “Top Gear”s presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have come under scanner after Mexico’s ambassador to Britain, Eduardo Medina Mora complained that they made some offensive comments regarding the nation on the television show. Mexico’s ambassador has written a letter to BBC officials where he complained about the xenophobic and offensive comments made by the three presenters about his own country. Eduardo Medina Mora stated that he was infuriated to see the latest episode of “Top Gear” where the presenters made fun of the Mexicans.
In the much controversial episode of “Top Gear”, Richard Hammond, while discussing about Mexican sports car, the Mastretta addressed the audience and asked them why they would want a Mexican car. He then answered that cars generally reflect the characteristics of the nation. The host then added that the Mexican cars would be feckless, lazy, overweight, flatulent and the cars would just lean against the fence for a support. Not only this, James May said that Mexican food can be called as “refried sick” with some cheese on it and then added that the Mexicans generally sleep all day long. Moreover, Jeremy Clarkson commented that they would not receive any complains because the Mexican ambassador would be sleeping in front of his television!
However, in the letter, Mexican ambassador Eduardo Medina Mora has asked a public apology from the presenters. In his letter, the ambassador stated that the remarks somehow reinforce bad “stereotypes and perpetuate prejudice” against the people of Mexico and the country. The officials of BBC have declined to comment anything about the whole matter.
