Las Vegas, Aug 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) 22-year-old Mexican beauty Jimena Navarrete has been crowned as Miss Universe 2010 in a gala event that was held last night in Las Vegas. The finale of the beauty pageant that witnessed beauty queens from as many as 83 countries all across the world vying for the crown took place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on Monday. The Guadalajara native impressed the judges of this year’s pageant and walked away with the crown leaving behind a host of ravishing beauties from all part of the world. With the win, Jimena Navarrete who describes herself as a nature enthusiast, succeeded the outgoing Miss Universe 2009, Venezuela’s Stefania Fernandez.

Apart from the diamond-embedded tiara with which she was crowned as Miss Universe 2010 contest winner, the Mexican beauty would take home a year’s supply of dresses, shoes as well as hair products, apart from a year long scholarship to the New York Film Academy. Lady luck was surely smiling at Jimena Navarrete who looked dazzling in a ruby-ted evening gown as she emerged victorious at the gala event. The 22-year-old Mexican beauty, who intends to study nutritional science, is the second beauty queen from her country to bag the crown after Lupita Jones who won the crown way back in the year 1999.

In the meanwhile, the pageant authorities have revealed that Miss Universe 2010 Jimena Navarrete would be spending her reign as the beauty queen raising awareness for the people suffering from HIV/AIDS as well as drawing attention towards breast cancer. The beauty contest which reached its 59th year last night was hosted by Bret Michaels and Natalie Morales.
