affectionately_yoursThe movie buff’s did have a splendid time revisiting the classic era of Hollywood, relaxing at their home while munching the bagful of pop corns. Turner Classic Movies featured a day of Merle Oberon on Tuesday, Aug 25, which was a kind of a tribute being paid to one of the leading actresses of the 1930’s. The viewers and the classic movie aficionados were reportedly glued to their seat, as TCM presented the best of her movies on Tuesday, thus revisiting an era that is long gone but still lingers within everyone’s soul.

The tribute was paid as a part of the TCM’s latest venture called “Summer of Stars”, which seemingly airs movies comprising of the brightest stars of the early 90’s to 50’s.

Merle Oberon staggered to ‘wuthering heights’ after being cast as Anne Boleyn in the classic film “Private Life Of Henry VIII” which was seemingly directed by her then husband Alexander Korda. Oberon was married to Korda for a period of six years, i.e. from the year 1939 to 1945.

The movies that were featured on TCM included “Private Life Of Henry VIII”, “Beloved Enemy”, “The Dark Angel”, “‘Til We Meet Again”, “That Uncertain Feeling”, “Affectionately Yours”, “A Song To Remember”, “Berlin Express”, “The Lodger”, “The Scarlet Pimpernel”, “The Divorce Of Lady X”, “The Lion Has Wings”, “Wuthering Heights” and “First Come Courage”.

Oberons career shot to fame when Korda, who went on to become her future husband, offered her a role in “Private Life Of Henry VIII”. Oberon reportedly got scarred for life after suffering a traffic collision that nearly ended her career, but thanks to the technicians that she was able to continue and portray her acting skills and deliver one of her most famous movies “Wuthering Heights”. Oberon died at the age of 68 after suffering a stroke in the year 1973.
