“Merle Haggard: Learning To Live With Myself” Chronicles A Life Of Struggle

July 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Wednesday, fans of American country music singer, guitarist, songwriter and instrumentalist Merle Haggard got to know some unknown facts about his life in the documentary “Merle Haggard: Learning to Live With Myself”. The docu-feature was aired on PBS on Wednesday night at 9 p.m. during its popular series “American Masters”. The well edited richly detailed 83 minutes long documentary was able to hold on to the interest of the viewers who got to see the legendary country music singer speak about his struggle and journey in the path of music. The singer had always remained an intriguing personality speaking through his songs.
The documentary on the life of Merle Haggard was filmed over a period of three years by the co-producer and director Gandulf Hennig. It contained speeches of Merle Haggard himself who chronicles his early years of struggle. Merle Haggard, who is known by many as a deeply personal writer, came up in front of the camera to reveal some of his life’s memorable instances. “Merle Haggard: Learning to Live With Myself” portrayed a man who is constantly trying every day to come to terms with a life that has always thrown new challenges and hardships in front of him. The interviews of Merle Haggard and the camera following him for a time period of three years made the documentary a worth watch.
The documentary also featured interviews of people who have been close to Merle Haggard. Interviews with Kris Kristofferson, Keith Richards, and John Fogerty made it all the more real and interesting. “Merle Haggard: Learning to Live With Myself” turned out to be a well researched film on the life of a country music singer.
