Meredith Vieira Will Quit “The Today Show”

meredithvOct 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Meredith Vieira, who has been hosting “The Today Show”, in NBC, as Katie Couric’s replacement, is planning to leave the show to devote more time to her family. Katie Couric, whose contract with “CBS Evening News” will expire in May, may resume her work in “Today Show” with her co-host, Matt Lauer.

“The Today Show”, which was first aired in the year 1952, on Jan 14, is one of the most popular morning news and talk show in the United States, and the first of its genre in the country. Katie Couric and Matt Lauer were the two co-anchors of this show from 1997 till 2006. After that Katie Couric signed a new contract with CBS “Evening News”, as they paid her a more lucrative amount. For more than three years, Meredith Vieira has been hosting the show as Katie Couric’s final replacement, with the same co-host, Matt Lauer. Although Meredith Vieira and her co- anchor Matt Lauer have been equally popular as co-workers, the former decided to quit the show as she wanted to devote some more time to her family. The 56-year-old television journalist has been a popular face in many sensible programs. She has two children, aged 20 and 18 years respectively.

Her contract with this show was supposed to be extended till next September. Some sources say the journalist may refuse to extend the contract, if Katie Couric decides to come back. However, an insider of NBS news said that Katie Couric may not want to come back for “The Today Show” as she may start a new contract with Time Warner or continue working with CBS.
