Memphis BeatNew York, June 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) TNT aired the premier episode of its new southern crime drama “Memphis Beat” on Tuesday. Hyped to be an unique offering in its own genre that is going to change the realm of crime television series, “Memphis Beat” happens to be a production venture by Hollywood superstar George Clooney.

“Memphis Beat” has Jason Lee essaying the role of protagonist, Memphis police detective Dwight Hendricks. Besides Jason Lee, the cast also includes actors like Leonard Earl Howze, Alfre Woodard, Ceiia Weston, DJ Qualls, Abraham Benrubi, Sam Hennings and Charlie White.

The first episode of “Memphis Beat” depicted a lingering tale about the protagonist detective Dwight Hendricks who happens to be a detective with different shades. Besides being a part of the Memphis Police Department, he also beats the city blues as an Elvis impersonator.

As a matter of fact it is this different shade that occurs as a recurrent theme throughout the episode with the background score all hustling with guitars playing blues and heavy violins keeping up the pace with the occurrence of the events. “Memphis Beat” is all about crime and the music is one strong thread that binds each and every aspect of the drama that is set against the backdrop of Memphis- a city where crime rules the roost.

On a whole, the first appearance of “Memphis Beat” puts it well ahead of a typical “cop beats the baddies” storyline like “Law And Order”. “Memphis Beat” is undoubtedly a character based plot which is more subtle and hence more intriguing. The music which plays an essential role in the development of the plot are compositions from the bag of Blues singer songwriter Keb’ Mo.
