July 24, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) 2010 has started on July 22, which will screen Indian films with the tag “Not Quite Bollywood’. The Australia India Institute will co-present it.

According to an Australian High Commission release, the festival is highlighting the Indian films. According to the festival programme, “”Not Quite Bollywood’ offers a selective list of Indian movies that takes you from the traditional glitz and glam of Bollywood to a realistic and often gritty perspective on modern Indian cinema”.

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan will be going to Melbourne on August 6 to showcase his upcoming movie Peepli Live at the Regent Theatre. LSD, The Well, and The Japanese Wife are some other Indian films to be screened at the festival. Abhishek Chaubey will launch his directorial debut movie Ishqiya at the festival. The LSD director Dibakar Banerjee and Priya Sreedharan, the producer, will be guests in the festival.

Lachlan Strahan, the acting Australian High Commissioner to India, said, “Indian cinema and Bollywood have been accepted by the Australian audience in recent years. The increasing Indian diaspora in Australia and also the growth of India at the International level has increased the curiosity of people here and they want to learn more about the country”.

The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival of Australia, which will conclude on August 8.
