Mumbai, Nov 26 (IANS) The fate of Sudhir Mishra’s epic love story “Mehrunissa” now hinges entirely on Amitabh Bachchan’s approval, as everything else associated with the film is already in place.
If the sources are to be believed, UTV has decided to produce the film and the shooting is set to begin in Lucknow, March next year.
“UTV has decided to come on board to produce what promises to be one of the most expensive films in the history of Indian commercial cinema,” said a source close to the project.
In this Hindu-Muslim love story, Rishi Kapoor plays a Hindu lawyer while Amitabh Bachchan will play a Muslim commissioner of police.
And if Big B decides to come on board, Amitabh and Rishi will be coming together on the big screen after a gap of 28 years. The two had last worked together in “Coolie” in 1983.
Talking about the storyline, Rishi revealed: “It is a story about two best friends who haven’t spoken for 40 years. It’s a romantic film, but also very funny. We’re going to have look-alike playing the young Rishi Kapoor and the Big B. I want to work with Amitji. Now it all depends on him.”
As the 69-year-old megastar is busy taking care of his newly found joy, his granddaughter, these days, sources say he is enjoying this beautiful time.
“Amitji has just finished a very invigorating season of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati 5′. The exhilaration of having achieved something extraordinary had not settled down when the little one came,” said a source.
“The household at the moment moves completely according to the baby. At the moment, Big B is enjoying his state of contemplative idleness,” he added.
Meanwhile, people behind “Mehrunissa” are getting nervous and anxious, but Nikhil Advani, who has written the script, is sure about one thing.
“Yes, we’re waiting for Bachchanji to give his nod. There’s no ‘Mehrunissa’ without him.”
