Megamind upstages Unstoppable in the box office test
November 15th, 2010 - 10:16 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLos Angeles, Nov 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) For the second weekend running, the animated comedy, “Megamind” stayed at the top of the Box Office chart. The movie did beat off strong challenge from “Unstoppable” which features Denzel Washington.
The 3-D animated movie from DreamWorks was at the top of the chart the previous weekend before this and it stayed top of the Box Office chart again after it grossed some $30 million last weekend. The amount though was 35% short of the premiering amount that the movie grossed.
20th Century Fox’s “Unstoppable” complete with Denzel Washington premiered last weekend but it couldn’t upstage “Megamind” from the top of the chart. The movie managed to gross some $23.5 million last weekend. The figure is based on early estimates. This weekend, the Box Office grossed some $123 million which is far lower than last weekend’s $154 million.
Some Box Office analysts projected that “Unstoppable” was going to open at the top of the chart this weekend but strong performance from “Megamind” ensured that that is not realized. DreamWorks was obviously very happy with the performance and the head of worldwide marketing for DreamWorks Animation, Anne Globe said that the performance of the movie was “terrific”.
