New York, Feb 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine seems to have backtracked from his earlier endorsement of GOP hopeful Rick Santorum. The singer was widely reported to have endorsed the candidature of Santorum in the Republican race but he has issued a press release denying that.

Instead, he says the press failed to interpret his comments properly. His reasoning is that because he failed to use the word endorse, the press cannot state that he has done such a thing. He however admits saying the words that were initially attributed to him in the earlier report.

His press release stated that, “Contrary to how some people have interpreted my words, I have not endorsed any presidential candidate… What I did say was that I hope to see a Republican in the White House. I’ve seen good qualities in all the candidates but by no means have made my choice yet. I respect the fact that Santorum took time off from his campaign to be with his sick daughter, but I never used the word ‘endorse.”

Santorum will welcome all the praise that can get his direction. His campaign gained momentum at the right time which saw him take the Iowa caucus to the surprise of many political pundits. The GOP race is seen as a three-horse race between Santorum, Newt Gingrich and pundits’ bet to pick the ticket Mitt Romney.

The winner of the GOP race will face President Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential race in the United States.
