MediaCorp 45 yrs birthday celebration, Sunday at Singapore

MediaCorp’s Channel 8 celebrated its 45 years in Singapore, Sunday evening Nov 23, 2008. The night was the biggest reunion of stars.

Awards were given out last night such the Most Memorable TV Host and the Most Classic Variety Show Character. Chua Foo Yong received the Most Memorable News Anchor award and actress Chen Li Ping accepted the award for the Most Classic Drama Character for her unforgettable role as dedicated teacher ‘Ai Yoyo‘.

MediaCorp is a state-owned group of commercial media companies in Singapore specializing primarily in television and radio broadcasting, and to a lesser extent, in periodicals and newspaper publishing and film-making. At present, MediaCorp runs eight television channels and 14 radio channels, making it the largest media broadcaster and provider in Singapore. It is also a monopoly in free-to-air TV in Singapore.

MediaCorp was formerly know as Television Singapura (1963–1965) the first radio station in Singapore and a TV service in Channel 5. On 23 November the same year, Channel 8 was launched. Channel 5 shows some of the English and Malay programmes while the Channel 8 shows some of the Chinese and Tamil programmes.
