Mattel Brings Mad Men Into Barbie’s World:No Drinking or Smoking

ken Mar 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The AMC cable television series “Mad Men” has became very popular among the pop culture in three short seasons. The show is portrayal of the life of those in advertising during the 60’s on New York City’s Madison Avenue. The characters on the show, both male and female, get involved in all sorts of scandalous affairs and business issues.

Now the makers of the ever famous Barbie doll, Mattel toys, have announced that they are currently working on a new line of dolls, meant to be collectibles. These dolls will be based on the characters from the “Mad Men” series. Don Draper, the leading male character from the show, his wife, Betty; his colleague Roger Sterling from the Sterling Cooper Agency, and Joan Holloway, the office manager of the agency who was also the mistress of Roger Sterling.

Although it is felt that this is an incredulously bad idea as a child’s toy, (a doll fashioned after characters involved in adultery and scandal?) Mattel has drawn a (very faint) line. Although the dolls will come with accessories such as hats, coats, and pearls, there will be no ashtrays, cigarettes, martini or wine glasses. Well, at least there is that.
