Mary Tyler Moore is “Growing up Again”March 25th, 2009 - 10:55 pm ICT by GD
Mary Tyler Moore, the seven time Emmy Award winning actress is more of a woman who knows what she was and what she is now. In her forthcoming biography she shares the joys and the sorrows, the highs and the pitfalls of fame and also confesses her personal regrets as a mother.
In her newest journal, “Growing up Again”, she narrates her past forty years of life spent struggling with the type 1 diabetes. And it’s not surprising to know that the proceeds of the book will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, of which she also happens to be the International Chairman. About the book she says, “I’ve had the fame and the joy of getting laughter—those are gifts…now I want others to learn how I fell down and picked myself up.”
The actress has been known for her alcoholism in the past; however, since 1984 she has not had a drop of it. Her mother had been an alcoholic and as for her father, she feels that he was more emotionally distant than he was physically near; she says that in all her life she was never able to earn the approval of her father.
Before marrying Dr. Robert Levine, her husband for last 25 years, Moore has been through divorce twice. In the year 1980, her only child- from her first marriage, her son, Richard Meeker Jr. died a tragic death from an accidental gunshot wound that was self-inflicted.
We now understand what she meant, when she said, “…. how I fell down and picked myself up.”
