Jan 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Martin Scorsese is honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes held at Beverly Hills in California. While presenting this award, the actor, director, producer and a very close friend Robert De Niro gives a witty and funny introduction to Martin Scorsese which got the audience rolling with laughter. He says, “Mary sleeps, drinks and eats film, I hear there are videos on the Internet of Marty having sex with film.” In a hilarious tone he adds, “…a hot reel of 35 mm stock..” Leonardo DiCaprio who has made a lot of recent movies with Martin Scorsese joined the introduction part with Robert De Niro and referred Martin Scorsese as “a master filmmaker and a generous, patient teacher,” who defines cinema.

Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro have got tired of receiving endless awards. Robert De Niro cracks another joke. He says having worked together in the industry for 20 years, they are now going to spend the rest by “presenting each other awards.” He puts, “We’re like an old married couple, we built a life together, we have great memories - we just don’t together anymore.” Robert De Niro further honors the legend Martin Scorsese by saying, “I can’t help thinking if times were a bit different, how proud Cecil B. DeMille would have been to be honored with the Martin Scorsese Award.”

Martin Scorsese, the legend’s work addresses varied themes like Roman Catholic concept of guilt and redemption, issues of identity, violence, male chauvinism, tussle between Italian American identity. His film brings out deep psychological issues. His prominent achievements include films like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and Goodfellas which were collaborated with Robert De Niro. Let us wait for another Martin Scorsese treat with the release of “Shutter Island” on February 19th.
