Martin Scorsese to get the Cecil B DeMille Award

Los Angeles, Nov 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Martin Scorsese is to be honored with a lifetime achievement honor, the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award at the upcoming 67th annual Golden Globe Awards show in Los Angeles, organizers said. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association said it voted to give the New York-born filmmaker the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his “outstanding contribution to the entertainment field.”

The upcoming Golden Globes show in which Martin Scorsese is to be honored, will be presided over by comedian Ricky Gervais and it will be broadcast live Jan. 17 on NBC from The Beverly Hilton.

Scorsese is already a two-time Golden Globe Award recipient for directing the movies, “The Departed” and “Gangs of New York.” He received five more nominations, four as Best Director for “Casino,” “Age of Innocence,” “Goodfellas,” and “Raging Bull,” and one for Best Screenplay for “Goodfellas” along with Nicolas Pileggi.

The lifetime achievement award, with which Martin Scorsese will be honored is named after the legendary film producer and director, and the Board of Directors of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association voted for him to be honored with it.

Recent recipients of this lifetime achievement award, include Steven Spielberg (2009), Warren Beatty (2007), Sir Anthony Hopkins (2006), and Robin Williams (2005).
