Oscar Winner Marlee Matlin has opened up about drugs, sex abuse and her abusive boyfriend William Hurt in her new autobiography “I’ll Scream Later”.

In the book the 43 year old deaf actress who won an Oscar for her role in “Children of a Lesser God” reveals how at the age of 11 she was sexually abused by a 16-year-old babysitter. She speaks of the time and of her emotions, saying, “Afterwards I ran into the bathroom. I wanted to throw up. I was drowning in that crush of emotions - fear, shame, anger, betrayal - molestation victims everywhere feel. My parents never found out.”

She says she was hooked on the drugs soon to escape the memory of that molestation. She admits taking marijuana and then moving on to cocaine. She says she eventually spent time in the famed Betty Ford Clinic in California to get rid of her addictions.

She also mentions that during the filming of “Children of A Lesser God” she and her co-star William Hurt came close and began a whirlwind romance. But the relationship got difficult after she won the Oscar for her role and he did not. She said, “(He asked me)

‘What makes you think you deserve it (the Oscar)?’” She says there was repeated violence between them and on one occasion Hurt threw her on the bed and began ripping her clothes off as she sobbed, ” “No, no, no. Please Bill, no.”

The expose also talks about Matlin’s relationships with actors Richard Dean Anderson, Rob Lowe and TV writer David E. Kelley.
