Beverly Hills, June 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) During an auction at Beverly Hills, Marilyn Monroe’s dress was sold for $5.6 million. The dress is the one that the actress wore in the movie “The Seven Year Itch.”

The dress at the time was given the unofficial title of being the ‘subway’ dress. It has been 49 years now since Monroe died but that has done very little to stop her popularity. The dress was part of a group of things that previously belonged to Monroe. The idea to auction off the dresses and some private things was conceived by singer and actress Debbie Reynolds. She revealed that over the years she has tried to place the items in a museum but she has not seen so much success in that regard. This prompted her to consider auctioning the things off.

The buyer’s identity was kept out of the public notice. The purchase was done over the telephone and it doesn’t seem the identity of the buyer will be revealed anytime soon. The auction was carried out last Saturday at the Beverly Hills.

There were other dresses from stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Natalie Wood, Marlon Brandon, Audrey Hepburn and Madonna were also auctioned off during the event. One of Charlie Chaplin’s bowler hats was also placed under the hammer and it fetched $135,300 during the auction.
