Maoists shoot at Class 10 student in West Bengal
October 24th, 2010 - 11:25 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, Oct 24 (IANS) A Class 10 student was shot at and injured by suspected Maoists in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district Sunday, police said. Nobody has been arrested.
District Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma told IANS by phone that Kartik Mahato was fired at by the rebels at Chandra village, 15 km from Midnapore Kotwali police station.
“The incident happened in the afternoon. He received bullet injuries in his shoulder,” he said.
The joint forces deployed in the area to flush out the Maoists were conducting a combing operation to nab the culprits, police said.
Maoists are mainly active in the state’s three western districts - Bankura, Purulia and West Midnapore.
