‘Mantilla’ a hand-stitched line by Jaya Rathore (With Images)
June 21st, 2011 - 6:56 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 21 (IANS) Kolkata-based designer Jaya Rathore presents an ancient treat for fashionistas - her latest pret collection revisits the traditions of needle and frame sewing practiced by women in homes and convents.
“Handcrafted Spanish lace and convent embroideries inspire the range of women’s pret. The collection is my effort to to revisit and recall the traditions of needle and frame sewing used by women in families and convents earlier,” said Rathore.
This is the first time that the designer has ventured into the luxury prêt category. The collection comprises high-waisted trousers, flared pants, tunics, tops with elongated hemline, knee-length dresses and much more.
The collection also has Flamenco ruffles, matador boleros, scalloped edgings, fringed scarves and capes with a contemporary makeover.
The cross-stitch form, which are considered as designer’s signature style, will be seen as the must-have staple this time as well. Thicker threadwork on finer fabrics like net, chiffon and georgettes create the effect of a lace. The colour board comprises light, dark, neutral and vibrant shades.
“The shapes are made keeping in mind women of different body types and age groups. Luxurious separates, ready to be picked off the hangers, provide options for day and evening attires, with the scope to dress up or down, depending on the occasion,” said the designer.
The collection is available at Aza store in the capital with the price on request.
