Mana captivates fans in Chile
November 28th, 2011 - 12:19 pm ICT by IANSSantiago, Nov 28 (IANS/EFE) Mexican Latino rock band Mana appeared before a delighted crowd in this capital’s La Florida stadium, giving a romantic and electrifying concert in which they reviewed their hits and the new numbers from their “Drama y Luz” album.
Pioneers of the Spanish-language rock genre that was launched in the 1980s by groups such as Mecano, Nacha Pop and Hombres G in Spain and Soda Stereo, Cafe Tacvba and Caifanes in Latin America, the Mexicans demonstrated Saturday night that they know how to reinvent themselves and - after more than 20 years in the business - are still able to command respect.
The band’s classic songs such as “Rayando el sol”, “Oye mi amor” and “De los pies a la cabeza”, along with melodies from their 2011 album “Drama y Luz” stirred the emotions of the more than 20,000 people who sang along with lead singer Fher Olvera, bassist Juan Calleros, drummer Alex Gonzalez and guitarist Sergio Vallin.
An enormous semi-transparent backdrop on which high-definition images were projected covered the stage when the group came out to perform “Lluvia al corazon”, the first single from “Drama y Luz”, an album loaded with “pain and hope” that emerged after the death of Olvera’s mother and sister in 2010.
The high point of the show came when Olvera and Vallin, the latter playing an acoustic guitar, moved from the main stage to a small dais in the center of the stadium, where they performed a potpourri of romantic numbers, among them “Cachito” and “Te llore un rio”.
