Ed Sullivan Theater is the place where David Letterman tapes his show. The police have identified the suspect as James Whittemore. According to the accounts given by the police, James was arrested at the theater’s lobby. James has been charged with criminal mischief and burglary and he was held in jail. Officials were planning to take him to court later on.
The police say they received a 911 call and when they got to the theater, they saw James wandering in the lobby. The Ed Sullivan Theater is synonymous with the show “The Ed Sullivan Show.” The show was one of the most famous in history and in 1964 the Beatles appeared on the show.
Letterman has in the past suffered direct attacks. In the late 1980s, Margaret Mary Ray stalked the talk show host. She was arrested and charged on multiple occasions. Another incident in 2009 involved blackmail from a former employee. The man was threatening to expose Letterman’s affair with a female co-worker. Letterman reported to the police and the man was arrested and charged.
