Mahatma Gandhi’s great grandson plays his real self on screen
January 16th, 2010 - 2:59 pm ICT by ANIMumbai, Jan 16 (ANI): Tushar Gandhi, the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, is excited to play a part on the silver screen in the forthcoming film ‘Road To Sangam’.
The movie, which stars other veteran actors like Om Puri and Paresh Rawal, is set in present-day Allahabad city.
The story hinges on the character of Hashmat Ullah, a Muslim mechanic, who rebuilds an old car to carry the urn containing Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes to commemorate his death anniversary.
Bollywood actor, Paresh Rawal said, “The story has been made by mixing facts and fiction. Gandhi Ji’s urn of ashes was left in the locker of State Bank of Bikaner.”
“Our real-life character Hashmat Ullah, who is an auto mechanic in Allahabad, repaired the car that was used for immersing the ashes. The story is about this entire incident,” he added.
Tushar Gandhi, who is playing himself in the movie, said that the movie highlights the importance of introspection and responsibilities in life.
“I feel that this film gives the message that it’s very essential for all us to introspect within ourselves. That is the central emotion in the film,” said Gandhi
The movie is directed by debutant director Amit Rai and has already received many awards in international film festivals.
The movie is slated to release on January 29. (ANI)
