Maharashtra journalists protest attacks
December 15th, 2011 - 11:29 pm ICT by IANSNagpur, Dec 15 (IANS) Hundreds of journalists took out a procession Thursday to the Maharashtra legislature here demanding protection from attacks on the media fraternity in the state.
The journalists, sporting black flags and raising anti-government slogans, marched from the Patrakar Bhavan in Nagpur to the legislature building where the winter session is underway.
A delegation later met Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to discuss the issue.
Chavan informed them that a report of the ministerial committee headed by Industry Minister Narayan Rane would soon be placed before the state cabinet.
“Before that, we shall discuss with the committee members whether the media’s point of view has been considered or not before taking any final decision,” he assured.
His response came after the delegation, comprising journalists from 16 groups, said that the committee report has been prepared without discussing the issue with them.
Condemning all such attacks, particularly on media persons, Chavan said that such instances must be dealt with strictly.
