Aug 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) When Maggie Gyllenhaal showed up for an event at the ‘Apple Store’ in SoHo on Monday wearing a pair of flare jeans, a tie neck burgundy blouse and cork wedge heel sandals, she was very much rocking the seventies look which has left some wondering, are all those “skinny jeans” which they have spent their cash on soon to be out of style again?

Skinny jeans are made to fit snugly through the legs and have a very small opening at the bottom near the ankles. They are also called drainpipes, stovepipes, cigarette pants, pencil pants, skinny pants, or simply skinnies.

The true skinny jean will taper completely at the bottom of the legs and drainpipe jeans are slim fitting until they reach the bottom of the legs, which is straight. This causes the bottom of them to be slightly baggier than that of skinny jeans. Some skinny jeans are so small at the bottom, that they require zippers on each leg near the ankle in order to get them over the feet. They are often made of stretch denim.

Skinny jeans have quite a history, as they were worn in the 50’s by such names as Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, and Sandra Dee, and then in the 60’s by The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. Hippies popularized the flare leg jean in the 70’s. The skinny jean began to come back during the 80’s with the retro-punk look, and again in 2006 by such stars as Avril Levine. By 2008, even the men were into wearing the skinny jeans.

And now it seems that Gyllenhaal may bring back the flares. Maggie wore flare leg jeans along with the burgundy shirt, with white polka dots to the “Meet The Filmmakers” event which was held on Monday.
