The latest news concerning “MadTv” is that, the show is going off the air. The episode that was televised on night of Saturday, 16 May was the its last, not for this season but forever. After 14 long years of providing maddening entertainment to its viewers, the late night comedy show finally called it a day.

David Salzman, the executive producer of the show told the Daily News, “We tried to come up with a finale that is in keeping with MADtv’s irreverent and un-self-serving way of doing things. I’ve been sworn to secrecy, but it is a different format than a usual show. We are bringing back a few of our former cast members and favorite characters, and that title could give you a little bit of a clue to the direction we are choosing.

In the last episode of “Madtv“, Fred Willard returned for the last time to bid farewell as the host of “MADtv Gives Back.” The final episode of the comedy show featured the all time favorite skits, parodies and and characters from the past episodes.

Fox took the decision to cancel the series in order to make way for the for the new Wanda Sykes talk show that will be making its debut this coming fall. In the past, “Madtv” did have its moment of excellence, most of all during the skewering pop culture, but for most part of the past seasons, it was always overshadowed by the SNL. This is also one of the most likely reasons for wrapping up the series for good.
