April 6, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Pop icon, Madonna, is in Malawi with her four kids, prior to her weeklong charity tour. On Monday, she journeyed to the Millennium Village that is a United Nations program in the central border district west of Lilongwe.
Madonna, who took on her two kids, David and Mercy, from the Malawian region, has expressed that she feels closely related to Malawi. She will be accompanied by the economist, Jeffrey Sachs. He is a specialist on developmental issues and the guru of her Raising Malawi initiative. On Tuesday, Madonna will place the first brick of her Raising Malawi Academy for Girls. That will indicate the authorized inauguration of the creation of the $15 million academy. It is set to open in 2011.
She has written in a blog that, on her first trip to Malawi, she was distraught to encounter child after child who had been viciously victimized by AIDS. She lost her mother at a very young age. Therefore, Madonna has stated that she felt a close connection with these children.
She has pushed millions into this poverty-stricken southern African country and has actively pursued charitable efforts.
The 51-year-old wishes to join up her children, David and Mercy, with their biological families. This might not happen in Mercy’s case since her natural father has left the country. However, David’s father, Yohane Banda, can’t wait to come together with his son.
