‘Madholal keep walking’ nominated for 8th Third Eye Asian Film Festival

“Madholal keep walking’- a Hindi feature film, written and directed by Jai Tank, has been nominated for the 8th Third Eye Asian Film Festival that is to be held in Mumbai from December 4-10. The film will be screened on 8th of December 2009 at 10.30am, Plaza, Dadar.
The film draws inspiration from the Mumbai train blast; and filmmaker Jai Tank unravels a story that salutes the undying spirit of man.
The Asian Film Festival is aim to bridge the gap between the Asian Film fraternities and promote Asian cinema. Mr. Vijaya Mehta, Executive Director of NCPA is going to inaugurate the festival.
Over 100 feature and short films from 24 countries like Turkey and Japan to name them few have participated in this weeklong fest.
Unlike other films that are only based on the train blast, the focus in “Madholal keep walking’ is on the resilience of the human spirit and the manner in which Madholal, the main character comes to term with his fate.
The local train is a metaphor for life. It represents life as an odyssey. We all are cogwheels of the machinery that has fallen apart due to external events beyond our control, which is the reality of our times.
The film features Subrat Dutta aka Madholal Dubey a Kolkata-based theatre actor who has won the Best Actor award in the 8th Osian Cinefan Festival 2006 for the Bengali film- “Bibar’ (Calcutta unabashed). So far, he has played the main lead in more than 10 films in four languages and has had major roles in 8 films. His last Bengali movie “Chaturanga’ as lead actor (Sachis) was shown in more than 50 film festivals.
The other cast of the film is Neela Gokhale (Kamla Dubey Madholal’s wife), Swara Bhaskar (Sudha Dubey Madholal’s daughter) and Pranay Narayan (Anwar Mulani Madholal’s neighbour).
Just shot in 27 days, Madholal have got immense appreciation in Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival 2009, which was held at New Delhi. Given only one slot for screening Madholal was played thrice on public demand. It was a great honor for Jai Tank when Subrat Dutta aka Madholal Dubey won the Best Actor award in Cairo International Film Festival, 2009. Wherein the film was nominated in completion category along with Kabir Khan’s “New York’.
Jai Tank started his career as a production assistant, and went on to be an editor, an assistant director for television commercials and an agency producer.
After training in various functions from 1994 to 2001, he set up Dream Cuts in 2001 as a one-stop shop for production and creative film services. As Director of Dream Cuts, Jai made several corporate, documentary and public service films, his documentary for “Voices At The Bottom Of The Pyramid’ has won him the much-coveted “Leo Intel Award’.
