Mackenzie Phillips spills her affair secrets on Oprah show

Chicago, Sep 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Mackenzie Phillips appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show and spilled a lot of beans about her incestuous affair with her father John Phillips, leader of the famed ’60s pop group the ‘Mamas and the Papas.’
The 49-year-old Phillips discussed the incestuous relationship and her infamous, long-running struggle with drug abuse on an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show airing Wednesday, as her book “High on Arrival” is released.
In the wake of all these allegations, however Mackenzie’s step-mother Michelle is accusing her of lying. She denied the story in an exclusive interview with Roger Friedman for the Hollywood Reporter’s Showbiz 411 blog.
She told Friedman that in 1997, Mackenzie told everyone in their extended family that she and John Phillips had a sexual relationship, including Michelle.
“She told me, then she called me back and said, ‘You know I’m joking,’ ” Michelle said. She continued, “I said it wasn’t funny. Mackenzie said, ‘I guess we have different senses of humor.’ ”
Another detail came to light on the show when Mackenzie mentioned that she also became pregnant, and since she was not sure whether the baby was her father’s or her husband’s so she aborted it.
“My father abused me, but he wasn’t a monster. He was a tortured man who led a tortured existence,” she writes in her book, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Michelle Phillips, Mackenzie’s step-mother implied that the timing of Mackenzie’s scandalous public admission, to coincide with the book, is a ploy for attention.
