cbJan 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) “Lying to Be Perfect” premiered on Saturday at 8 p.m. on Lifetime. It was a beautiful story of the protagonist Nola, played by Poppy Montgomery. It told the story of an overweight girl who happened to be an editor of magazine called Shine! Nola dreamt of becoming a writer and bring a difference to people. The magazine was facing some problems and she suggested to start a column that would increase readership. She wanted to write the column. Her boss liked the idea but did not want the overweight Nola to be the columnist of the column which suggested people how to get in shape.

Intelligent and witty Nola had an idea, she invented her alter ego Belinda Apple. She edited her picture and sent it to the magazine along with her articles. In a short period of time, the reason for the increasing readership of the magazine turned out to be Belinda Apple.

Things were going fine unless an editor demanded that the columnist should make a personal appearance as they wanted to publish a book on Belinda Apple’s columns. Nola was playing the role of both the characters smoothly so far. As Belinda Apple is from London, she spoke in British accent over the phone. However, it was not possible for Nola to look like Belinda Apple. Time comes for Nola to merge with her alter ego.

Meanwhile, Nola with her two friends Deb [played by Audrey Wasilewski] and Nancy [Chelah Horsdal] decided to take the advice of Belinda Apple. Of course Nola’s friends were not aware that Belinda Apple is actually Nola. They formed the “Cinderella Pact”, where they planned to reduce. They visited a trainer, and followed a strict diet. Nola’s dream thus came true.

Apart from having a good story line, “Lying To Be Perfect” dealt with the emotional conflict which most women go through due to society’s pre-conceived notion of what is beautiful.
