Nov.8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) “The Fourth Kind” is a recently released movie that generated a fair amount of pre release hype because of its theme. However, the early reviews have been somewhat lukewarm towards the film. The film narrates the tale of a sleep deprived group of people getting kidnapped by Alien invaders. The publicity campaigns and numerous trailers of the movie had tried to stress on the fact that it is based on true events that took place near Alaska. However, there are several movies that have used these tactics previously and therefore it was hard to convince people.
The makers of the film have used audio visual footage of sleep deprived people falling prey to aliens as archival materials. In fact, they have tried their level best to make it look like a true story. It is quite similar to “The Blair Witch Project” that adopted a similar technique a few years back. However, another film named ‘Cloverfield’ clicked with the viewers with its unique video format and mysterious campaign. The concept of realistic horror movies have changed over time.
The fan following of “The Fourth Kind” is nothing much to write about and the buzz surrounding “Paranormal Activity” is actually overshadowing it more or less. “The Fourth Kind” has not got favorable word of mouth publicity or reviews so far. This is sure to affect its box office collection. The viewers and critics have not found its scary scenes practical or realistic. The end of the year is a good time for horror and scary films but this one seems to have missed the bull’s eye by a wide margin.
