Wellington, Apr 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The ‘Lord of the Rings’ filmmaker Peter Jackson has been knighted. He was honored on Wednesday in New Zealand, and while accepting the honor, he said very humbly that he is accepting the honor on behalf of numerous people who helped him while he was making his movies. The New Zealand’s head of state Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand in lieu of the Queen Elizabeth II honored him. He was knighted for his ‘services to the arts in New Zealand’. Peter Jackson was delighted when he got his official title as a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

While accepting the award he said that, “I feel incredibly humbled. The truth is, making movies is not a solo effort — it involves hundreds of people, thousands of people — so I feel as though I’m accepting it on behalf of the industry.” He has helped the New Zealand tourism industry immensely, because his trilogy of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ was based there, which helped to transform the rustic New Zealand into a booming tourism spot.

The last movie of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy bagged a record 11 Academy Awards. His current project is titled ‘The Lovely Bones’.
