Longterm University of Massachusetts Band Director George Parks Dies Of Heart Attack

Ann Arbor, Sep 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) George Parks, the band director of University of Massachusetts passed away on Thursday the after suffering a massive heart attack. The director along with his band performed at Ohio on Thursday night. It is after the performance that George Parks suffered a major heart attack and collapsed immediately. The news of the death of George Parks was confirmed to media sources by the University that went for a news release on Friday. It mentioned that the band director and the band was headed towards Ann Arbor where it is scheduled to perform on Saturday. George Parks died aged 57.
The sudden death of band director George Parks, who had brought national renown to the music band of University of Massachusetts, has come as a shock not only to his family members but also to the whole University fraternity. University of Massachusetts’ professor of music, John Jenkins on Friday remembered George Parks as a man who had the “wonderful gift of mesmerizing students”. He praised the late director as a Pied Piper. George Parks served as the director of the University of Massachusetts band for more thirty-three years and was one of its most beloved director. Jeff Fox, the chairman of the University of Massachusetts department of music and dance, remembered George Parks as a man of enormous energy and commitment who knew the art of leading a band. Jeff Fox opined that the director believed in whatever he did and he loved not only the music but also kids.
Although there is no denying the fact that the University of Massachusetts’ football game against the Michigan State University will be overshadowed by the death of George Parks, band members have decided to perform at the play. Jeff Cox held that the performance will be a tribute to the great man who was in love with music.
