Lloyd-Webber reveals he is impotent after prostate cancer treatment
March 31st, 2011 - 12:22 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, March 31 (ANI): Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber revealed in a TV show that he ‘can’t have sex’ after his prostate cancer treatment.
Webber, whose company, the Really Useful Group, is one of the largest theatre operators in London, had his prostate removed after being diagnosed with the disease in 2009.
He had initially been keen to explore alternative therapies but opted to have the organ taken out when doctors told him it would mean he had virtually a “100 per cent chance” of a full recovery.
However, the composer of 13 musicals including The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Sunset Boulevard and Whistle Down the Wind, he was told that such surgery would result in impotence and that he would be unlikely to have sex again naturally.
The 63-year-old composer, who has been married three times, admits he is resigned to a sexless life.
“I am a ladies’ man who can never make love. I am resigned to that,” the Daily Telegraph quoted Webber as telling Piers Morgan’s ‘Life Stories’ TV show.
“When I had a check-up, they told me I ought to have a biopsy. I’d already prepared myself for it.
“The main side effects, of course, are that you can’t have sex. That’s the main thing.
“But look, hang on a moment - I’m alive; I have my music; I have my children. I am the luckiest man.
“If I’d left it, the chances are I’d be on chemotherapy now and it would be a nightmare.
“I regard it as great luck that I’m out the other side,” Webber added. (ANI)
