Lionel Richie to get humanitarian award
December 5th, 2011 - 4:18 pm ICT by IANSLos Angeles, Dec 5 (IANS) Singer Lionel Richie will be honoured with a humanitarian award by the Harvard University for helping quake-hit Haiti.
The singer will be honoured with the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award for co-writing 1985 charity single “We Are the World” and re-recording the song in 2010 to benefit Haiti. Richie will receive the honour during a ceremony at Harvard University Monday, reports contactmusic.com.
He is also being honoured for his efforts to raise money and awareness for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The past recipients of the annual award include Sharon Stone and James Earl Jones.
