Lily Allen calls Susan Boyle “overrated”

- “Britain’s Got Talent” is again in the eye of another controversy. In a recent blog in the social networking site Twitter, Lily Allen had criticized Susan Boyle as an “overrated” singer. Incidentally, Boyle has reached the finale of this immensely popular and must-watched TV show in England. She fought and struggled against other singers and has ultimately reached the final rounds of this show. But Lily Allen’s criticism and comments questioning the merit of this singer has raised many eye-brows. Allen had said that though Boyle can sing, she could never really be a finalist because of her limited vocal expertise. Allen’s favorite is the 12 year old singer Shaheen Jafargholi, who is still struggling to reach the last round of “Britain’s Got Talent”.
Allen claims that Boyle’s timing is all wrong, she has no control over her voice modulations; moreover, she does not have an extraordinary voice, as claimed by others. “Overrated” is the term that she uses throughout the post to describe this contestant. As a matter of fact, Allen is not the only one to have criticized this middle aged singer. In a report “The Sun” had also claimed that Boyle had disturbed a lot of people while practicing for the show, with her unpleasing voice. A hotel guest is quoted to have‚ said that her “cacophony” had kept him up all day!
However, Susan Boyle has had her share of supporters too, even among the celebrities. The Hollywood couple, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, was a part of the‚ crowd that cheered her on during the competition. Moore and Kutcher have‚ always been staunch supporters of Boyle even in the face of all criticism.

“Overrated” is a very subjective term. The 3 judges on the show all gave her a unanimous yes. Millions of others also felt she could sing and sing well. Ultimately, a singer is a combination of good voice, emoting and appeal- physical or otherwise. Many of the current crop of pop sensations may actually fail on this show, yet have made a mark for themselves. That is to say, they are actually overarted. It is a matter of opinion and only time will tell.

Who is Lily Allen? And what difference does it make what she thinks. Millions (MILLIONS) of people love Susan.

I agree with Lily. I think she is a good singer but I do not think she is extraordinary. I have been singing all my life as well but I am a trained singer and I heard a ton of singers at Broadway auditions that would have buried Susan. I think the hype is just that she does not look like someone you want to see sing the way she does. The people aspiring to careers in the limelight were mostly beautiful people. I am not criticizing her looks…I am just calling it like it is…

I’d love to hear Lily Allen ‘try’ to sing - I dreamed a dream. Think she might be a ‘little’ bit jealous of the attention Susan got. Whats her problem? Susans older than lily, different genre too - so why cant she just concentrate on what swear words she can fix in her next sweet little ditty to keep her fan-base happy and leave Susan alone?

After reading her very sad story, I have to say that I hope Susan Boyle makes her millions. I don’t think anybody deserves to live such a miserable existence. I hope she has a fairy tale life from this day forward. I apologize for my former post.

OMG, I have to add one more post. I am so ashamed of my first post on Susan. I just watched her Youtube video of her Memory performance and I was floored. It was absolutely beautiful, her voice, her interpretation everything. Susan Boyle deserves all the accolades she is receiving and more. She does have a gift from God and I hope she gets to share it with the world.
